First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijani Army, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, has visited NATO Headquarters
On January 15, 2025, First Deputy Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijani Army, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, visited NATO headquarters to participate in the NATO Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence Session on the topic of "Pervasive Instability," held with the participation of partner states.
The main objective of the meeting was to discuss various aspects of the impact of instability on different regions, as well as issues related to the standardization and interoperability development of member and partner states.
Chief of the General Staff of the Azerbaijani Army, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, delivered a speech at the meeting. In his address, he discussed the prospects for Azerbaijan’s cooperation with NATO, the country’s contributions to NATO’s Resolute Support Mission and other operations, as well as the experience gained by the Azerbaijani Army through participation in various NATO exercises and events. He highlighted Azerbaijan’s continuous contributions to peace and security within the Euro-Atlantic space and beyond, emphasizing that as a partner that has fully restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty, Azerbaijan is committed to further strengthening international peace and security. Lastly, the Chief of the General Staff expressed regret that the Individually Tailored Partnership Programme (ITPP) document has not yet been approved and expressed hope for a positive resolution of the issue soon.
As part of his visit to NATO headquarters, Colonel General Karim Valiyev held bilateral meetings with the Chief of the Turkish General Staff, General Metin Gürak, Chief of the General Staff of Italy, General Luciano Portolano, and Chief of the General Staff of Hungary, Colonel General Gábor Böröndi. During the meetings, topics on military cooperation, current state of bilateral relations and future perspectives were discussed, and thoughts on other matters of mutual interest were exchanged.
During the visit, Colonel General Karim Valiyev also visited Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to NATO, where he met with the representatives of the Mission and got familiarized with the activities of the Mission.
