20 January - National Mourning Day
On this day Azerbaijan commemorates the 35th anniversary of the “Black January” tragedy.
20 January marks a day of deep sorrow and immense pride in the history of Azerbaijan. On this day in 1990, brave sons and daughters of our nation laid down their lives in the struggle for freedom, independence, and sovereignty. Their courage in the face of oppression became a turning point in our nation’s path to restoring independence.
We bow in respect to their memory and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals they fought for. Their sacrifices will forever live in the hearts of the Azerbaijani people. May their souls rest in peace!
