Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Hikmat Hajiyev visited to NATO Headquarters
On June 12, 2024, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan - Head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs of the Presidential Administration Mr. Hikmat Hajiyev visited to NATO Headquarters.
Mr. Hikmat Hajiyev participated in the meeting with Allied Nations in “NATO+Azerbaijan” format and had a productive discussion with Allied Nations regarding the current status and future prospects of the NATO-Azerbaijan partnership, Azerbaijan's essential role in regional connectivity and energy security, the preparatory process of COP29, climate and green solidarity agenda, as well as the normalization process with Armenia and advancement of peace agenda.
During his visit to NATO HQ Mr. Hikmat Hajiyev held a meeting with Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Innovation, Hybrid, and Cyber Mr. James Appathurai.
The two sides discussed the NATO-Azerbaijan partnership, cooperation on energy and climate security, participation of Azerbaijan in the NATO SPS program, humanitarian demining, Azerbaijan`s COP29 Presidency, and other issues of mutual interest.
Mr. Hikmat Hajiyev also met with the Permanent Representative of Türkiye to NATO Ambassador Levent Gümrükçü.
They had discussions about the NATO-Azerbaijan partnership, the recent developments in the region, the normalization process with Armenia, Azerbaijan`s COP29 Presidency, and other issues of mutual interest.
The strong and enduring brotherly relations between Azerbaijan and NATO ally Türkiye were reemphasized.
Over the course of his visit, Mr. Hikmat Hajiyev also met with the NATO Secretary General`s Special Representative for the Caucasus & Central Asia Mr. Javier Colomina.
The parties discussed the current state and the future prospects of the Azerbaijan-NATO partnership and the issues of mutual interest based on common values and principles of the PfP Framework Document.
